Everything We Know So Far About The Mahindra Thar 5-door

Thar 5-door

The Thar 5-door is expected to have a 300mm larger wheelbase and a variety of powertrain options.

Mahindra’s second-generation Thar has been a smashing success, and in March 2023, sales of the three-door model reached the 1 lakh production-unit mark. Recently, the SUV manufacturer has debuted the more economical Thar 2WD, which has gained popularity among buyers due to its lower price and nearly identical appearance to the 4WD model.

The Thar lineup will grow this year with the addition of a more useful five-door model. The Thar 5-door will appeal to people looking for a more family-friendly off-roader due to the extended wheelbase and extra convenience of rear doors. Here are five facts about this Item that you should know in light of that.

1. The Mahindra Thar 5-door Will Offer A Variety Of Powertrain Choices

For the 5-door Thar, Mahindra plans to provide a wide range of powertrain options. Our sources claim that it will retain the 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engines and manual or automatic transmissions from the Thar 3-door. The absence of a 4X4 lever on the centre console in a spy photo that leaked a few weeks ago indicates that Mahindra is also preparing a 4X2 version of the Thar 5-door. However, due to its greater dimensions and heavier weight, the Thar 5-door 4X2 will have the more potent 2.2-litre diesel engine as opposed to the Thar 3-door 4X2’s smaller 1.5-litre unit.

2. Mahindra Thar 5-Door Will Maintain Distinguishing Design Cues

The Thar’s retro appearance is its main selling point, and Mahindra has kept a lot of that in the five-door version. The spy photos show that it still has the boxy dimensions, rounded headlamps, wide tyre arches, and spare wheel located on the tailboard. However, Mahindra may widen the track between the wheels in order to achieve the ideal wheelbase-to-track ratio for greater stability, which would likely need completely new body panels. It’s interesting that the rear doors of the Thar five-door will have a handle positioned on a pillar. The alloy wheel design also appears to be fresh.

3. The Mahindra Thar 5-door should have more features

With the exception of a few small adjustments and, more importantly, more features, the inside will also be basically similar to the three-door model. The Thar 5-door receives additional amenities, such as the front-center armrest, a sunglasses holder, and maybe an upgraded touchscreen that supports Mahindra’s AdrenoX software, according to earlier spy photos.

The wheelbase of the Thar 5-door is anticipated to be 300mm longer than that of the three-door version. The second row of the Thar 5-door will offer greater room than the Thar 3-door because to the longer wheelbase. It’s interesting that all the lengthier Thar test vehicles seen so far have individual rear seats; it’s unclear if Mahindra will provide a bench-seat configuration.

4. The Jimny 5-door And The Mahindra Thar 5-door Won’t Directly Compete.

Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny 5-door, which is an extended version of a three-door off-roader like this Thar, had its world debut at Auto Expo 2023. Although they both have tough body-on-frame construction and use heavy off-road equipment, they are not direct rivals. The Thar 5-door is in a higher segment because to its larger proportions and more potent engines. Although prices for the Jimny and the Thar 5-door are not yet available, the Thar 5-door is likely to cost significantly more given its advantage in size and power. The Force Gurkha 5-door, which is also in the works, will be a more appropriate adversary.

5. This Year, Mahindra Thar 5-door Will Be Released.

The Thar 5-door’s launch date has not yet been announced by Mahindra, although it is very possible that it will happen before the year is over. It will be Mahindra’s sixth body-on-frame vehicle when it goes on sale.
